Dr. Marc A. Pohl is currently a consultant and former Head of the Section of Clinical Nephrology and Hypertension at the Cleveland Clinic, and holds the Ray W. Gifford, M.D. Endowed Chair in Hypertension.
After graduating from Amherst College, Dr. Pohl received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and then interned and did medical residency training at University Hospitals of Cleveland, followed by senior residency in medicine and nephrology fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital , Boston University Medical Center, and Boston City Hospital. He also served as Head of the Dialysis and Transplantation Section of the Kidney Disease Control Program , of the Regional Medical Programs of the USPHS from 1968‐1970. Dr. Pohl has been affiliated with the Cleveland Clinic since 1973.
Dr. Pohl has been a co‐investigator in a number of major clinical trials , including the U.S. Collaborative Study of Adult Nephrotic Syndrome, the Lupus Nephritis Collaborative Study Group, the North American Adult Nephrotic Syndrome Study, and the Collaborative Study Group . He is the author or co-author of more than 100 articles, and numerous abstracts and book chapters. Dr. Pohl actively participates as a faculty member of many national and international symposia and postgraduate courses in nephrology and hypertension and is widely recognized for his excellence in teaching and commitment to graduate and post graduate medical education.
Dr. Pohl belongs to the American Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology, the American Heart Association and its Council for High Blood Pressure Research, the American Society of Hypertension ,and the National Kidney Foundation.. He is a past Chairman of the Post Graduate Education Committee of the American Society of Nephrology and recently served as Co‐Director of the American Society of Nephrology Board Review Course and Update from 2009‐2011.

Graduated from Baldwin Wallace College, Case Western University School of Medicine, and completed his residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he was awarded the Bruce H. Stewart award for being the top resident at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He has subsequently been on staff in the section of Urologic Oncology/Prostate Center for the past 19 years.
Dr Ulchaker is a member of the AUA's BPH Guidelines Panel. He has been the Past President of both the Cleveland Urological Society and the Ohio Urological Society, and has served on the Board of Directors and is the current President-Elect for the North Central Section of the AUA.
He has participated as the Chair of both the AUA's Young Urologists and Legislative Affairs Committees. He was the AUA's 2012 Gallagher Health Policy Scholar and is the former Vice-Chair of UROPAC, organized urology's political action committee. The majority of his research has been in the field of new technologies associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and tumor markers.
He is married with two children ages 17 and 15 and is a life long resident of Rocky River where he serves on the Parks and Recreation Commission for the City of Rocky River.
