Wanda Phipatanakul, MD, MS, has dedicated much of her career to clinical research aimed at reducing and preventing asthma and allergic diseases in children, particularly inner-city children. She directs the Asthma Clinical Research Center at Boston Children's Hospital and is a Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

Originally from St. Louis, she earned her medical degree from Loma Linda University and completed her residency in pediatrics at Children's Hospital Los Angeles in 1997. After a fellowship in immunology at Johns Hopkins University, she joined the faculty in the Division of Immunology and Allergy at Boston Children's and Harvard Medical School, where she has remained for the past 18 years. She holds a Master of Science in clinical epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Phipatanakul has built a deep network of community relationships, and she conducts both school- and home-based asthma studies with inner-city children. From there, she leads a comprehensive National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded school-based environmental trial, the School Inner-City Asthma Intervention Study and was recently awarded a new NHLBI R01 comprehensively evaluating environmental exposures and sleep disordered breathing in children.

Dr. Phipatanakul is also the Boston pediatric principal investigator for the NHLBI AsthmaNet and the Severe Asthma Research Program and the PreCISE network. She is also the Boston site PI for a multicenter primary asthma prevention study evaluating killed bacterial lysate in babies, a vitamin D trial in school aged children with asthma, and the overall PI for a NIAID funded, nationwide, multicenter asthma prevention study evaluating omalizumab (anti-IgE) in preventing the allergic asthma march in allergic, wheezing toddlers. She has authored 180 publications in scientific journals, including JAMA and the New England Journal of Medicine and has had continuous NIH funding for 15 years. She was recently elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation.

Dr. William O. Tatum IV is professor in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, and senior consultant in the Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic Florida. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Neurology, American Neurological Association and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society.

He is board-certified in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Epilepsy and serves as the current director for the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at the Mayo Clinic in Florida. He completed his medical education at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa, neurology residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, and a two-year epilepsy fellowship at Graduate Hospital affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania.

After training, he relocated to Tampa, Florida pioneering Tampa General Hospital-University of South Florida Comprehensive Epilepsy Center before joining the Mayo Clinic in 2009 as a clinician-educator.

He is a past president of the board of the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, currently serving as the Vice-Chair for the clinical neurophysiology section of the American Academy of Neurology. He has served on the board of directors for the American Board of Registration of EEG Technologists and Evoked Potentials, and currently serves on the board of the Epilepsy Foundation of America.

He has been principal investigator in surgical and pharmacologic clinical trials with research interests in seizure semiology, drug-resistant epilepsy, and EEG/clinical neurophysiology. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and editorials and has edited/co-edited 7 books in the field of epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. He serves on the current editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology as an Associate Editor, and is the Editor-in-Chief for Epilepsy and Behavior Case Reports. He has presented lectures at national and international meetings as an invited lecturer.

    • Updates on strategies to reduce and prevent asthma with consideration of practice guidelines in management
  2. Rhinitis/Sinusitis
    • Appreciate the signs and symptoms of rhinitis due to allergies and acute and chronic sinusitis with an emphasis on diagnosis and treatment.
  3. Allergy Shots/ Sublingual Immunotherapy
    • Learn about allergy shots and sublingual immunotherapy and indications for its use and how they may be given safely .
  4. Environmental and Occupational Allergenic Triggers
    • Provide appropriate testing and counseling to patients with suspected environmental and occupational triggers for disease .
  5. Food Allergy
    • Determine whether a patient has food allergy, perform and interpret appropriate allergy tests, and provide a management plan for patients with food allergy.
  6. Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema
    • Manage atopic dermatitis, based upon better knowledge of a complex chronic skin disorders.
  7. Anaphylaxis
    • Recognize the severity of anaphylaxis and the causes.
