Program Purpose / Objectives

Emergency Medicine

Emergency Medicine encompasses a wide variety of topics that usually need emergent intervention. During this CME course, we will discuss topics that are important to the specialty that have recently undergone a change in management. We will also discuss common topics with unusual presentations or commonly missed diagnosis. The topics covered in this series are also great topics for all physicians or advanced practice providers,regardless of specialty as they are commonly seen in all patient populations and great knowledge for all.

  1. Pain Management without Opioids
    • Identify non-narcotic medications to use for pain management
  2. Ride the C-O-O-l Wave: use of end-tidal CO2 in ED setting
    • Demonstrate the use of end-tidal CO2 in the ED setting.
  3. Pediatric Fever
    • Evaluate the use of ancillary tests in pediatric fever
  4. Commonly missed x ray finding
    • Review common missed findings on x-rays
  5. Bronchiolitis: what do I do?
    • Discuss current management in patients with Bronchiolitis
  6. Laceration Tricks of the trade
    • Demonstrate the variety of laceration repairs available
  7. I hit my head: when should I order a Head CT?
    • Examine the proper use of Head CT in head injury

Adjunct Assistant Professor, Duke University Global Health Institute, Durham, NC. Dr. Sheikh is a consulting cardiologist, practicing on the Space Coast of Florida. He serves as Director of the Health First Institute for Cardiovascular Wellness and Disease Prevention. He is engaged in clinical practice, as well as research and teaching. His academic appointments include Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Duke University Global Health Institute, as well Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Central Florida.

His clinical interests include preventative cardiology, cardiac imaging, and global cardiac health and wellness. He was voted by the Consumer council of America as one of America’s top cardiologists. Dr. Sheikh speaks at national and international forums about a variety of topics related to his clinical research, cardiovascular diseases and cardiac wellness. He has served as the principal investigator in over 100 national and international clinical trials. He has authored over 150 scientific abstracts, peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and reviews. He is the author of the critically acclaimed heart wellness book, “Don’t Let Your Heart Attack.”

Physician, Florida Emergency Physicians of TeamHealth; Florida Hospital Orlando Caroline is a native Floridian, who was born in Miami, Florida. She attended Florida International University, where earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She went to Puerto Rico for medical school, specifically Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine and graduated in June of 2007.

As for her residency, she stayed in Puerto Rico and attended University of Puerto Rico Emergency Medicine Residency, in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Upon graduation in 2010, she moved to Orlando Florida, where she joined a group that serves AdventHealth East Orlando. Shortly after beginning at AdventHealth, she became the Curriculum Director at the AdventHealth Emergency Medicine Residency.

Recently in May 2019, she completed her master’s in medical education from Lake Erie College of Medicine. She is an enthusiastic tennis fan, as a local player and enjoys being a spectator at the Miami Open and US Open Championships.

Cape Liberty, NJ (New York, NY) - Cape Liberty Cruise Port is located on the New York Harbor in Bayonne, New Jersey, and is just seven miles from New York City and three miles from Newark Liberty International Airport. Its waterfront location and convenience to the Big Apple allows visitors easy access to everything New York City has to offer along with providing visitors access to the historic roots of Northern New Jersey. Convenient guest parking is located adjacent to the cruise terminal.
