Dr. Dereck DeLeon has been a Family Physician with Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, California for the past 22 years and was the Program Director for the Kaiser Permanente Family Medicine Residency Program in San Diego as well as the Southern California Regional Chair for Diversity in Graduate Medical Education Committee.
He was also the Co-Chair of the San Diego Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Chair of the San Diego, Innovation in Quality Education and Transformation Committee at Kaiser Permanente San Diego.
His leadership background also includes being on the Association of Family Medicine Residency Director Education and Program Director Development Committee as well past Chair of the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Continuing Medical Education Committee .He also has completed numerous Fellowships in Leadership, Faculty Development and Curriculum Design and Assessment.
Dr. DeLeon also maintains a busy clinical practice with Kaiser Permanente. He holds the appointment of Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Preventative Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.
One of Dr DeLeon's passions is in developing community programs that seek to expose those from underrepresented backgrounds to the health care profession as well as to educate other healthcare providers around the issues of health inequities in our communities. Dr DeLeon help pioneer the Kaiser Permanente/ San Ysidro High School Summer Urban Fellowship which has helped provide the education/mentoring and role modeling for local high school, college and medical students from underrepresented groups ,who seek careers in medicine .
Dr. DeLeon has been an invited speaker at numerous venues and has presented numerous scholarly work at, the AAFP Annual Scientific Assembly , the AAFP Program Directors Workshop , the University of California San Diego School of Medicine , and the AAMC Minority Student Workshop among others.

Kaiser Permanente Orange County Family Medicine Residency Program

Dr. Timothy Munzing has been a family physician with Kaiser Permanente in Orange County, California for the past 33-1/2 years, over 30 years as the founding Program Director of the KP-OC Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Munzing serves on the national ACGME Family Medicine Review Committee, responsible for the accreditation of over 600 Family Medicine residency programs. He has had a clinical practice for over three decades and has taught hundreds of Family Medicine residents and thousands of medical students. Dr. Munzing was the recipient of the 2017 National Family Medicine Outstanding Residency Program Director of the Year Award and the 2017 California Academy of Family Physicians Hero of Family Medicine Award. He holds the appointment of full Clinical Professor at the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine and Professor at the developing Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine, opening Summer 2020.
Dr. Munzing is a leading national expert on appropriate (legal vs. illegal) Opioid and Controlled Substance Prescribing, recently receiving a major national Medical Director’s Award by the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association. He has served as a medical expert reviewer for the DEA, FBI, and Medical Board of California for 15 years, having reviewed over 200 cases (100+ criminal) in over sixteen states across the United States.
Dr. Munzing published a peer reviewed article entitled “Guide to Appropriate Opioid Prescribing for Noncancer Pain" in May 2017 in the Permanente Journal, which is now being used nationally by physicians, law enforcement, and prosecutors. Dr. Munzing has lectured on the subject to thousands of physicians and healthcare providers, law enforcement (DEA, FBI, other state and federal law enforcement), and prosecutors across the United States.

For a truly immersive, full-day commitment, two iconic journeys beckon. The Road to Hana is a winding, 64-mile drive through a lush rainforest, past cascading waterfalls and dramatic coastal cliffs—an experience more about the journey than the destination. Alternatively, ascend to the summit of Haleakalā, the "House of the Sun." This dormant volcano offers an otherworldly, cloud-level perspective of a vast crater, a stark and beautiful landscape unlike any other. Due to their length and complexity, pre-arranged tours are the most efficient way to experience these wonders from a cruise ship.
For a less demanding but equally rewarding day, explore the Iao Valley State Monument, a sacred and verdant valley featuring the iconic Kīpuka Puaulu (Iao Needle). The region is, of course, synonymous with coffee. A short drive or tour into the hills of Holualoa reveals the Kona Coffee Belt, where numerous small, family-run farms welcome visitors. Here, you can walk through the coffee groves, learn about the bean-to-cup process, and sample some of the world's most prized coffee at its source. This is an authentic agricultural and culinary experience.
For a deep dive into Hawaiian culture, nothing compares to Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park, about a 45-minute drive south. This beautifully restored royal compound and sacred place of refuge offers a powerful, tangible connection to the island’s past. It is a quiet, spiritual place that rewards thoughtful exploration.
Water activities are centered around Kealakekua Bay, a protected marine life conservation district with exceptional snorkeling and diving. The bay is also the historic site where Captain James Cook was killed. Accessing the best snorkeling spots typically requires a boat tour, which is well worth the effort for the clarity of the water and abundance of marine life. Kona provides a compelling blend of significant history, world-class agriculture, and natural beauty, best accessed with a pre-arranged tour or rental car.

Two experiences define Kauai's epic scale. The first is Waimea Canyon, a massive, 14-mile-long chasm often called the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific.' Its deep, crimson-rock gorges striated with lush green foliage create a spectacle of color and depth that is truly breathtaking from its numerous roadside lookouts. The second is the legendary Na Pali Coast, a sacred and inaccessible stretch of coastline where sheer, emerald-green cliffs, fluted by time and waterfalls, drop thousands of feet to the ocean. As it is unreachable by car, the only ways to witness its majesty are via a dramatic helicopter flight or a rugged boat tour along its base.
For those seeking more accessible beauty, the Wailua River Valley offers gentle kayaking excursions to the Fern Grotto and easy access to the impressive Wailua and Opaekaa Falls. On the island's sunnier south side, Poipu Beach provides a classic Hawaiian beach day, with golden sands, calm waters for snorkeling, and frequent sightings of resting green sea turtles.

TRIP CANCELLATION
Reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason, such as you, a family member, or traveling companion experiencing a covered illness or injury. Examples include:
- A doctor says you or a traveling companion is too sick to fly
- Your parent or child requires hospitalization
- You need to attend the birth of a family member’s child
- You have a traffic accident (not breakdown) on the way to the airport
- A storm shuts down your airport for 24 hours or more
TRIP INTERRUPTION
Reimburses your unused, non-refundable travel expenses and increased transportation costs during your trip if you have to return home early due to a covered reason, for instance when a family member has a qualifying medical emergency and needs your care. Examples include:
- You have a covered illness or injury and a doctor says you must return home
- A family member has a qualifying injury and needs your care
- A covered emergency, like a fire or flood, makes your home uninhabitable
TRAVEL DELAY
If you have a covered delay while traveling, travel insurance can reimburse you for meals, accommodations, and transportation expenses when your trip is delayed for a minimum number of consecutive hours for a covered reason. Minimum number of hours varies by plan.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE
