Gregory Firestone, PhD

Gregory Firestone, PhD, is the President of My Florida Mediator and an Affiliate Associate Professor at the University of South Florida (USF) College of Public Health. A psychologist, mediator, mediation trainer, and dispute resolution system consultant, Dr. Firestone has maintained a private mediation practice since 1984. He previously served on the faculty of the USF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and was the Director of the USF Conflict Resolution Collaborative for 22 years.
Dr. Firestone is a practicing Florida Supreme Court certified Appellate, Circuit Court, Dependency, and Family Mediator, an Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) Advanced Practitioner, and a Diplomate Member of the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators. He has served on standing alternative dispute resolution committees of the Florida Supreme Court for more than two decades, including seven years as Vice Chair of the Court's Alternative Dispute Resolution Rules and Policy Committee. Additionally, he acted as an Official Observer to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws Uniform Mediation Act Drafting Committee on behalf of the ACR and the Academy of Family Mediators.
A respected voice in his field, Dr. Firestone has lectured and published widely on mediation. His recent work includes a co-authored article on mandatory pre-suit medical malpractice mediation, and he is the co-author of Mediation Works: Make it Work for You, a mediation orientation video produced by the Florida Supreme Court Dispute Resolution Center.
Kevin T. Stephan, MD, FACP
San Juan Regional Medical Center

Dr. Kevin T. Stephan is a board-certified Infectious Disease physician currently serving as the Chief of Infectious Disease at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, New Mexico. In this role, he is active in patient care, antibiotic stewardship, and infection prevention, while also serving as a GME Infectious Disease Instructor for the Internal Medicine Residency program. Previously, Dr. Stephan served as the Vice President of Medical Affairs for nodSpecialists, a telemedicine-based practice, and spent 15 years at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota. During his tenure in Duluth, he built the Infectious Disease section from the ground up, eventually becoming the Chief of Medical Specialties and Chief of Infectious Disease, and earned multiple PRC Five Star Excellence Awards for ranking in the top 10% of physicians nationally for overall quality of care.
In addition to his civilian practice, Dr. Stephan had a distinguished 23-year career in the United States military, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps. He served in multiple roles as a physician, researcher, and educator, including directing the HIV Unit at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He deployed as a medical group leader during Operation Enduring Freedom and provided medical care during humanitarian operations in Central America and Africa, earning the Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal for his service.

Arriving with Ease - Your transition from traveler to explorer is seamless. A Suggested Pre-Cruise Itinerary - Day 1: Arrival, Architecture, and Atmosphere
After settling into your accommodations, resist the urge to nap. Instead, let the city’s energy revive you. Begin with a walk toward the River Maas to behold the Erasmusbrug (Erasmus Bridge). Nicknamed "The Swan" for its elegant, asymmetrical pylon, this iconic structure connects the northern and southern parts of the city and is a symbol of modern Rotterdam. As the sun begins to set, the city’s skyline, a testament to its post-WWII reconstruction, puts on a spectacular display.
For your first evening, head to the Witte de Withstraat. Day 2: A Deep Dive into Art, Food, and History - Dedicate your full pre-cruise day to discovery. Start your morning in the Museumpark, a green space surrounded by a cluster of world-class museums. While the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen undergoes renovation, its collection is brilliantly accessible at the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. This stunning, mirrored structure is the world’s first publicly accessible art depot. It’s a revolutionary concept that allows you to see the inner workings of a museum, observing art storage and restoration—a fascinating, behind-the-scenes experience for an inquisitive mind.
From the Museumpark, it’s a short walk to the magnificent Markthal (Market Hall). This is not your average food market. The building is an architectural triumph, a massive archway with a vibrant, market-filled floor and apartments built into its structure. Look up to admire the ‘Horn of Plenty’ artwork sprawling across the ceiling. For lunch, the options are limitless. In the afternoon, gain a new perspective of the city from the water. Hop on a water taxi—a fast, fun, and quintessentially Rotterdam way to travel. Ask your driver to take you to Delfshaven. This small, historic harbor is one of the few parts of the old city to survive the 1940 bombing. Stroll along the canal, admire the gabled 17th-century houses, and visit the Pelgrimvaderskerk, the church from which the Pilgrims departed for America. The Scheepvaartkwartier (Maritime Quarter) offers a number of elegant, highly-rated restaurants perfect for a pre-voyage celebration. Oslo, Norway
A short ferry ride takes you to the Bygdøy Peninsula, a hub of maritime history. Here you'll find the Fram Museum, detailing harrowing polar expeditions, and the Kon-Tiki Museum, celebrating Thor Heyerdahl's daring ocean voyages. Please note: the famed Viking Ship Museum is currently closed for a major transformation into the Museum of the Viking Age, slated to open in 2026. While you can't see the ships for now, the other museums on the peninsula offer more than enough to fill your time.
Back in the city center, the new National Museum is a triumph, consolidating vast collections of art, architecture, and design under one roof. Nearby, the striking, modern Munch Museum on the waterfront provides a deep dive into the work of Norway's most famous artist, Edvard Munch. For a truly unique experience, a visit to Vigeland Park is essential. This vast public park is home to more than 200 powerful bronze and granite sculptures by Gustav Vigeland, depicting the full spectrum of the human experience. Don't miss the iconic Oslo Opera House, an architectural marvel of glass and marble designed to be walked upon; the views from its sloping roof are magnificent. The primary draw is the Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana), an extraordinary feat of engineering. This 12-mile train journey climbs nearly 3,000 feet from the fjord to the mountain station at Myrdal. The vintage-style carriages pass through 20 tunnels, offering breathtaking views of ravines and cascading waterfalls, including a brief photo stop at the powerful Kjosfossen. It is justifiably considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world; we recommend booking this well in advance.
For a different perspective, experience the fjord from water level. High-speed RIB boat tours offer an exhilarating ride into the Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site, getting you close to waterfalls and searching for local wildlife like seals and porpoises. For a more serene encounter, consider a guided kayaking trip, paddling silently beneath the towering cliffs.
A drive up the winding road to the Stegastein viewpoint provides the definitive panoramic photograph. This modern wooden and steel platform extends out over the mountainside, offering an unobstructed and slightly vertiginous view of the Aurlandsfjord 650 meters below.
Olden, Norway
The primary draw here is the journey to the Briksdal Glacier (Briksdalsbreen), a spectacular arm of the vast Jostedalsbreen ice cap. The trip inland is an experience, culminating in a walk or a ride on an electric "troll car" to a viewpoint of the glacier's blue-tinged icefall, which tumbles down a rugged valley into a milky-green lake.
For a different, equally stunning perspective, the nearby Loen Skylift offers a thrilling ascent to the top of Mount Hoven. In just five minutes, you are transported over 3,300 feet for panoramic views of the fjord, mountains, and valleys—a truly unforgettable vista. Alternatively, a more serene excursion to the emerald waters of Lovatnet (Loen Lake) reveals a place of profound beauty and poignant history. While Olden itself offers little more than a few souvenir shops, its true value lies in providing direct access to the raw, powerful, and accessible beauty of the Norwegian wilderness.
Bergen, Norway
The primary draw is Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walking its narrow, creaking wooden alleyways feels like stepping back into the 14th century, when Hanseatic League merchants dominated North Atlantic trade. The scent of tarred wood hangs in the air. Today, these historic buildings house artisan workshops, small galleries, and unique boutiques, offering a far more authentic experience than typical souvenir shops.
For a true sense of place, the Fløibanen funicular is essential. A short ride from the city center whisks you up Mount Fløyen. The panoramic view from the top—over the city's rooftops, the bustling port, and out towards the islands and fjords—is the definitive Bergen photograph and provides perspective on the region's dramatic geography.
Beyond the waterfront, the lively Fish Market (Fisketorget) offers a taste of local life, with vendors selling fresh seafood and local produce. For a dose of culture, the KODE art museums house an impressive collection of Norwegian art, including significant works by Edvard Munch. A short journey out of town leads to Troldhaugen, the beautifully preserved lakeside home of composer Edvard Grieg.
Be advised: Bergen is one of Europe's rainiest cities. A waterproof jacket is not just a suggestion; it's a near necessity. The frequent showers, however, often give way to brilliant sunshine, washing the city clean and making the colors of Bryggen even more vibrant.

This is a city best explored at a leisurely pace, allowing its unique character to unfold. The graceful canals of its central district, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are lined with beautiful, narrow gabled houses that lean companionably against one another. After disembarking, transfer to your hotel, and begin your exploration with the city’s most essential experience: a canal cruise. TRIP CANCELLATION
Reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason, such as you, a family member, or traveling companion experiencing a covered illness or injury. Examples include:
- A doctor says you or a traveling companion is too sick to fly
- Your parent or child requires hospitalization
- You need to attend the birth of a family member’s child
- You have a traffic accident (not breakdown) on the way to the airport
- A storm shuts down your airport for 24 hours or more
TRIP INTERRUPTION
Reimburses your unused, non-refundable travel expenses and increased transportation costs during your trip if you have to return home early due to a covered reason, for instance when a family member has a qualifying medical emergency and needs your care. Examples include:
- You have a covered illness or injury and a doctor says you must return home
- A family member has a qualifying injury and needs your care
- A covered emergency, like a fire or flood, makes your home uninhabitable
TRAVEL DELAY
If you have a covered delay while traveling, travel insurance can reimburse you for meals, accommodations, and transportation expenses when your trip is delayed for a minimum number of consecutive hours for a covered reason. Minimum number of hours varies by plan.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE
Reimburses your expenses related to covered medical and dental emergencies* that might occur on your trip. This benefit can be especially helpful if you have a covered emergency outside the United States, as most health insurance policies won’t cover you outside the country. Examples include:
- You slip and break your ankle while sightseeing
- You get food poisoning while sampling the local cuisine
