Allison J. Batchelor, MD, CMD, FAMWA is a fellowship-trained geriatrician with more than 40 years of clinical experience in the primary care of older people. Presently, she works as an attending physician at Marietta Memorial Hospital Athens Department of Primary Care in Athens, Ohio providing geriatric primary care. In addition, she serves as an Associate Professor of Geriatric Medicine at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine teaching medical students and residents for over 25 years in addition to prior academic appointments.
She is trained as a Certified Medical Director through the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Medical Women’s Association.

Michael J. Tan, MD is Professor of Internal Medicine at Northeastern Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown, Ohio. At NEOMED, he is Section Chief of the Infectious Disease Section of the Drugs and Therapeutics course. Dr. Tan is Physician Lead for Summa Health Medical Group-Infectious Disease at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio where he is also Division Chief of Infectious Disease, Department of Medicine, Summa Health, and Medical Director for the Summa Health Clinical Research Center. Dr. Tan is board certified in infectious disease and internal medicine. He obtained his medical degree from the Northeastern Universities College of Medicine (now NEOMED) and completed his residency training at Summa Health System. He then completed a fellowship in Infectious Disease at the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL. He is a practicing infectious disease specialist and a frequent lecturer on various infectious disease topics.
Dr. Tan is a Master of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). He is former Regent for the American College of Physicians and past-Governor for the Ohio Chapter of the ACP. He is currently Treasurer of the ACP, chair of the Financial Policy and Audit Committee, member of the Governance, Compensation, and Membership Insurance Trust Committees. He chaired the Mastership and Awards Committees and was a member of the IM2019 Scientific Program committee, member of the Credentials committee 2019-2021, member of the Chapters subcommittee 2015-2019, and Chair of the Chapters subcommittee 2017-2019.
Dr. Tan’s primary research interests include participation in multi-centered controlled trials of new and novel treatments for Clostridium difficile infection, skin and soft tissue infection, and pneumonia. He is co-editor of Tan JS, File TM Jr., Salata RA, Tan MJ (eds.) Expert Guide to Infectious Diseases, 2nd edition (2008, ACP Press) and Rosenthal KS and Tan MJ (eds.) Rapid Review Microbiology and Immunology 3rd edition (2010, Mosby). Dr. Tan is listed in Best Doctors in America (2010 to present).

Getting Your Bearings - From Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), you have several excellent options. The most scenic is the water taxi, which offers a stunning introduction to the city skyline as it zips you to downtown landings. For pure efficiency, the MBTA's Silver Line bus is a free (from the airport) and direct route to the Seaport District and South Station. Of course, taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available. We recommend staying in the Seaport for modern hotels and proximity to the cruise terminal, or in Back Bay for classic brownstone charm and access to shopping and parks.
A Suggested 24-Hour Boston Immersion - Morning: Walk Through History
Start your day where America did. The 2.5-mile Freedom Trail is not a stuffy history lesson; it’s an engaging, self-guided walk through the heart of the revolution. Follow the red brick line from the tranquil Boston Common, past the gold-domed State House, and into the Granary Burying Ground, the final resting place of Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock. The trail leads you to Faneuil Hall, a historic meeting place now surrounded by the bustling Quincy Market. While certainly tourist-focused, the market is an excellent, no-fuss lunch stop. Grab a classic lobster roll or a bowl of New England clam chowder and soak in the lively atmosphere.
Afternoon: The Charm of the North End & Beacon Hill - From Faneuil Hall, cross the Greenway into the North End, Boston’s vibrant “Little Italy.” The streets narrow, the architecture shifts, and the air fills with the scent of espresso and garlic. Here you’ll find the Paul Revere House and the Old North Church of “one if by land, two if by sea” fame. It feels like a village unto itself.
Afterward, make your way to Beacon Hill. This is the Boston of postcards: steep streets lined with gas lamps, elegant brick rowhouses, and hidden gardens. A walk down Acorn Street, one of the most photographed lanes in the country, is a must for its quintessential colonial charm.

If You Have a Second Day - With more time, you can explore further. Art lovers should head to the magnificent Museum of Fine Arts or the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, a stunning Venetian-style palace with an eclectic collection and a fascinating story of the world’s largest unsolved art heist. For a different perspective, explore the chic boutiques and galleries of the South End, or cross the Charles River to Cambridge to wander the hallowed grounds of Harvard University.

The Québec City historic district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is still home to religious orders and hospitals that date back to the 17th century. Disembarking here offers a seamless transition from your ship into the heart of this living museum.
A Suggested Post-Cruise Itinerary: - Day 1: Immersion in Old Québec
After disembarking, a short taxi ride will bring you to your accommodations. Consider a boutique hotel nestled within the historic walls or the grandeur of the iconic Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. Once settled, your exploration begins on foot—the only way to truly appreciate the city’s charm.

At 83 meters (272 feet), these powerful falls are a full 30 meters higher than Niagara Falls. A cable car can whisk you to the top for spectacular views and a walk across a suspension bridge that spans the roaring cascade.
Alternatively, immerse yourself in art at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ), which features an outstanding and comprehensive collection of Québécois art from the 17th century to the present day. The modern Pierre Lassonde Pavilion is an architectural masterpiece in itself.
After a final lunch and some last-minute shopping for maple syrup products or local crafts, it’s time to depart. Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) is a straightforward 20-30 minute taxi or ride-share journey from the city center. TRIP CANCELLATION
Reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable travel expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason, such as you, a family member, or traveling companion experiencing a covered illness or injury. Examples include:
- A doctor says you or a traveling companion is too sick to fly
- Your parent or child requires hospitalization
- You need to attend the birth of a family member’s child
- You have a traffic accident (not breakdown) on the way to the airport
- A storm shuts down your airport for 24 hours or more
TRIP INTERRUPTION
Reimburses your unused, non-refundable travel expenses and increased transportation costs during your trip if you have to return home early due to a covered reason, for instance when a family member has a qualifying medical emergency and needs your care. Examples include:
- You have a covered illness or injury and a doctor says you must return home
- A family member has a qualifying injury and needs your care
- A covered emergency, like a fire or flood, makes your home uninhabitable
TRAVEL DELAY
If you have a covered delay while traveling, travel insurance can reimburse you for meals, accommodations, and transportation expenses when your trip is delayed for a minimum number of consecutive hours for a covered reason. Minimum number of hours varies by plan.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE
